and culture, nature and geography, and unveil nowadays life of this ancient country.
Arrival - Yerevan – Echmiatsin - Zvartnots - Yerevan
Arrival at Zvartnots (Yerevan) airport (early morning). Meeting in the airport and check-in in the
hotel. Greeting Breakfast. A sightseeing tour around the city: Republic square, «Haghtanak»
park, Mother Armenia» monument, Cascade. Lunch.
A visit to St. Echmiatsin, one of the first Christian churches in the world (303 A.D.), founded by
Gregory the Illuminator. It is the Holy Seat and the centre of the Armenian Apostolic church. It’s
included in UNESCO World Heritage List. The temple of Zvartnots («Vigil forces», «Celestial
Angels») VII century.

Yerevan – Matenadaran – Garni – Geghard - Yerevan (east)
Visit to Matenadaran – the repository of ancient manuscripts named after Mesrop Mashtots.

A visit to Garni fortress, the summer residence of Armenian Kings. The fortress is situated on the
rim of the Garni Gorge, near the Azat River. This is the only Pegan temple in Armenia built by the
Armenian King Trdat the I in 77 A.D and was dedicated to the God of the Sun and Justice Mihr.
A visit to Geghard-Ayrivank established in 4-th century by Gregory the Illuminator. The monastic
complex was enriched with new reconstructions in the XII century. Its main church is partly
freestanding and partly carved in the cliff with the series of chapels and caves hewn into the rock.
The complex is a piece of perfect art of medieval Armenian architecture and is protected by
UNESCO world heritage.
Cultural program: Concert (fragment) by the soloists of the National Academic Theater of Opera.
Back to Yerevan, free time.

Yerevan – Aparan – Haghpat – Akhtala - Yerevan
A trip to Aparan town. Visiting a typical early medieval Armenian three-nave basilica church of V
century Surb Khach (Saint Cross IV-V cc).
Booked lunch in the restaurant.
The route continues to the Monastery Haghpat: outstanding monument of medieval Armenian
architecture of X-XIV cc, which was religious and cultural center in the period of the Kiurikid
kingdom (X-XIIcc) in medieval Armenia. Haghpat monastery was called the Holy Cross church.
Holy water fills the small pool in the church. Believers say this water has curative qualities for
people with weak hearts.
Proceeding to the Monastery of Akhtala, founded in the 10th century by the Bagratuni dynasty's
Kyurikid branch. The main church at the compound is famous for its highly artistic frescoes, which
cover the inside walls, the partitions, and the bearings of the building.

Yerevan – Dilijan – Goshavank - Sevan (north-east)
A trip through the territory of the Dilijan National park and Dilijan town.
Proceeding to Goshavank Monastery, which was founded by famous Armenian cleric and law
codifier Mkhitar Gosh in XII-XIII centuries. The monastery played a prominent role in Armenia’s religious, cultural and educational life through the Middle Ages. Here stands the famous work of
sculpture of Varpet (Master) Poghos, a masterpiece of the Armenian craft of carving stone crosses– called «khachkars».
Proceeding to the «blue pearl of Armenia» – Lake Sevan which is situated at an altitude of about 2000 meters above sea level.

Sevanavank – Yerevan - Cafesjian Art Center
Breakfast. Visiting the IX c. Monasteries (Sevanavank, In 874 A.D. Princess Mariam built two
churches on the top of the Sevan Island (now peninsula).

Back to Yerevan. Visiting Cafesjian Art Center, which offers a wide variety of exhibitions, the
majority of which are derived from Mr. Cafesjian’s own extensive collection of contemporary art.
The collection of more than 5,000 works includes one of the most comprehensive glass collections
in the world. The center consists of 7 halls where substantial holdings in drawing, painting and
sculpture are exhibited.

Yerevan -Khor Virap – Noravank - Bird Cave – Areni - Yerevan (south -east)
Breakfast. Visit to Khor Virap monastery, in front of Biblical Mt. Ararat, on the left side of Arax
river where St. Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for a long period. It's a popular
pilgrimage site of the Armenians who pay tribute to the introducer of the Christianity to this
Biblical Land and receive the Lord’s Sacraments.
Visit to Noravank Monastery nestled in the spectacular mountains: the religious center of Syunik
Lunch at the monastery complex, and a slide show of the Noravank view by the local priest.
At the entrance to the gorge on the right there is a cluster of high but shallow and unornamented
caves, called Trchunneri Karayr (Bird Cave), with Bronze Age child burials. Excavations in Bird
Cave (Areni Cave) have uncovered large clay pots and jugs that have been dated to around
3500-3900 BC. The settlement is said to be the world’s earliest large-scale wine making facility
A trip to Areni village which is famous for its various factory and home-made wines. Visitors will
see wine as it is being processed, followed by a tasting
Back to Yerevan.
